Dedicated Server Hosting Configuration

Dedicated Server Hosting Configuration

To make any website accessible on internet it should be installed on a web server. More than one website can be installed on server for cost reduction. If the cost for hosting is reasonable then hosting organization can have more customers easily. For this kind of situations dedicated server can be the best option.

The few reasons can be:
· More resources can be accessible. As the resources are dedicated, more resources can be utilized.
· Better performance. With the enough resources takes less time to load.
· Secured hosting of various sites on one server can be burden.
· In dedicated solutions lots of customization options are provided to configure the server which can be like operating system(OS) and its location.

The performance of applications will be good with the best hardware configuration. The overall performance depends on every application in-turn depends on speed of hardware. For better performance, the hardware configuration like system memory, the speed of processor and hard disk can be verified.

Here are hardware configurations of the application servers:

1. Optimize disk speed
The performance of application servers varies according to the configuration and speed of hard disk, as the applications depends on database support, extended messaging, or processing workflow. Disk input or output subsystems like Redundant Array of Independent Disks, high-speed drives, and dedicated server caches are important parts to increase the performance. Application servers which need less disks can have advantages with mirrored disk configuration which increases reliability and provides better performance.
Disk conflict problems can be reduced with dispensing the processing of disks, like separating the disks as by storing the database tables on different disks and database log files on other disks.

2. Increase processor speed and processor cache
Some times the speed of the processor also helps for better output and response times. Even though the speed of smaller L2/L3 cache and larger L2/l3 cache is same, the larger cache gives the better output.

3. Increase the system memory
For better performance increasing the system memory can also be a better option. The minimum memory allowed for each processor is 256MB and for application server is 512MB. If the memory modules are less or in different locations then the CPU may access memory very slowly. Also few applications need more memory.

4. Run network adapters and network switches in full duplex mode
Run network adapters and network switches in full duplex mode and use the possible speed supported. Half duplex is slower than full duplex. To get the proper output check the network speed of the cards, cables, switches, and other devices. Often few websites need more gigabit links. Ensure that maximum speed is used for 10/100/1k Ethernet networks.
